If you're in the market for a new iPhone, wait till next month to see what Apple releases. There are strong rumours of a new 4-inch iPhone model going on sale in March, probably named iPhone 5se. (4 inches is the size of iPhone 5/5s.) A new small phone has been done before by Apple — the iPhone 5c in September 2013 — but this time it's a beefed-up version of the smallest sized iPhone. iPhone 5c was a stripped down version.
There should be no surprise now that Apple continues to release 4-inch iPhone models. The larger iPhone 6 (4.7 inch) and iPhone 6 Plus (5.5 inch) are everywhere, but so are the older smaller phones. Enough people prefer the small size to make Apple take notice, and it's not just because of the price. There is a demand for powerful small phones just as there's a demand for ever larger ones.
iPhone 5se Improvements (iPhone 5se vs 5s)
Even though it's going to be Apple's newest iPhone, there's no question of the iPhone 5se outdoing the flagship iPhone 6s. This will be a small phone, and given that its size is going to be the attraction for many people, it's helpful to compare iPhone 5se to its predecessor, iPhone 5s. Keep in mind that this comparison is based on rumour:
- Faster overall performance
- Touch ID now with ability to use Apple Pay
- Faster Wi-Fi
- Better camera (maybe same quality as iPhone 6)
The faster overall performance will be the result of a better processor (chip), and that probably means there will be better activity monitoring as well. If you have an older phone but like to see your activity in Apple's Health app, you'll definitely appreciate the difference when you see more accurate and specific information.
We hope longer battery life will also be a feature. With constant advances in battery technology this seems likely.
iPhone 5se Release Date & Pricing
It seems like the new iPhone will be revealed at an event on March 21. The iPhone 5se price is expected to be lower than other iPhone models, making this a good cheaper iPhone.
